Why Employers Don’t Just Provide Tools

Another fair question:

“Why don’t employers just provide the tools?”

Some do — but most don’t.

And there are reasons for that.

In many trades, tools are considered part of the professional standard. Owning your own equipment:

  • shows commitment

  • ensures familiarity

  • and allows workers to build their kit over time

There’s also practicality.

Tools get lost. Broken. Customized. Maintained differently by each person.

It’s simpler for employers to expect workers to bring their own.

That model has been in place for decades.

It works — until it doesn’t.

The system assumes new workers can afford to get started.

For some graduates, that assumption breaks.

That’s where VBCTF comes in.

We don’t try to change how the trades operate.

We make sure qualified graduates can meet the standard that already exists.

Because the expectation isn’t going away.

So the solution has to meet it.
